Brazil is my home. Though I had not visited the country before 2014, it is familiar to me because growing up in the hood in Miami is like growing up in the Favelas. Brazilians face the same challenges & structural barriers that we do in this country, in fact their government has learned their oppressive techniques from America. After my initial visit to Brazil, I’ve taken several follow-up trips and will continue to travel there to bring attention to injustice.
My purpose for visiting is to meet with universities, politicians, and most importantly, the people. Brazilians want the same things middle class America wants for their children so I want to show them how to question their government & think critically about drugs, race and poverty like we are beginning to do here.
