Carl Hart is a groundbreaking neuroscientist, whose landmark, controversial research is redefining the understanding of addiction. An associate professor in the psychology and psychiatry departments at Columbia University, he’s the first tenured African American professor in the sciences at the university and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. He’s also a member of the National Advisory Council on Drug Abuse. The Miami, FL native grew up in one of the city’s toughest neighborhoods and struggled with balancing his former street life with his achievements today—a journey he details for the first time in his eye-opening memoir, High Price.
